Brazil: cattle herd increased in 2011
22/10/2012
At the end of last year, Brazil had a total herd size of 212.8 million head, an increase of 1.6% compared to the figure at the end of 2010.
Mato Grosso, with 13.8% of the national total, was the state with the biggest herd, followed by Minas Gerais with 11.2%, Goiás with 10.2% and Moto Grosso do Sul with 10.1%.
IBGE said the Brazilian cattle sector had been affected by declining overseas markets, meaning there was less demand in export markets for Brazilian beef as well as for Brazilian hides.
