Tannery sponsors Concept Award for automotive brands

Scottish tanning company Bridge of Weir Leather has issued a statement to congratulate automotive brand Jaguar on winning the Scottish Car of the Year Design Concept Award for its C-X16 two-seater concept. The tannery, part of the Scottish leather Group, is the sponsor of the award.

The winning concept car has proved so popular that it led to the production of the Jaguar F-Type model, recently revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show (September 29 to October 14).

President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, John Murdoch, said on making the announcement: “Motor show concept cars are often used more for gauging public reaction to new ideas than for making production decisions, and many never see the light of day. However, our winner has received such global praise that it has paved the way for a production version in less than 12 months, and that is highly commendable, if not unheard of.”

Association secretary, Stephen Park added: “The Design Concept Award category is sponsored by Bridge of Weir, and four of the five front-runners feature the company’s fine Scottish leather. That is not a coincidence, it is evidence that some of the best leather in the automotive world comes from right here in Scotland. I am also delighted to add my congratulations to Jaguar’s Scottish director of design, Ian Callum, for the striking C-X16 concept – a triumph both inside and out.”

Presenting the award to Ian Callum, Bridge of Weir international sales manager, Dale Wallace, said: “It is an honour to present Jaguar with this award, only a year after congratulating the company for the ‘Most Iconic Car of the Past 50 Years’ for the E-Type at Scottish Car of the Year 2011. The C-X16 has continued this iconic sporting Jaguar bloodline stretching back more than 75 years. We are proud to have been a part of that journey.”
