Kemira pulls out of running for Clariant unit

Finnish chemicals group Kemira has decided against buying a division of Clariant.

It had been looking at the Swiss group's paper chemicals unit, which Clariant put up for sale in August along with its textile chemicals, and detergents and intermediates divisions. The three units are thought to be worth a combined $2 billion.

Clariant chief executive Hariolf Kottman said in June the company was planning to sell the units or find a joint venture partner within the next 18 months.

Several private equity groups and rivals were reported to be interested at the beginning of the month.
