PPR to focus on luxury brands

PPR, the world's third largest luxury group, is looking to offload music and book retailer Fnac to focus on its more profitable luxury and sports brands.

Fashion house Gucci, footwear brand Sergio Rossi and leathergoods specialist Bottega Veneta are among companies whose leather products are a key staple for the French conglomerate.

PPR could sever ties with Fnac by either putting its assets in a separate legal entity which could either be sold to a third party, or to investors in the stock market through an initial public offering.

It could face resistance from the French government, which is trying to fight the country's rising unemployment and putting pressure on corporate groups to maintain jobs.
