Bill Amberg relaunches Rocket
04/10/2012
“The Rocket is quite an icon for my brand,” Mr Amberg said on announcing the development. “First designed in the early 1990s and developed in my workshop when I was still in Battersea, London. The aluminium handles I first carved in bulser wood to get the mechanics right until finally being made in aircraft cast aluminium, ultra-light and very strong.”
Originally conceived as “a modern alternative” to the English Gladstone bag, the Rocket is a large, open-mouthed bag. The Victoria and Albert museum bought one of the originals for its collection, althought it’s not on display at the moment.
Relaunch versions include a padded base, an Ipad pocket and pen-loops. The body is made from is a 2.8 millimetre vegetable tanned bridle leather, with the lining in brightly coloured suede.
It comes in two sizes, small and large, and in three colour combinations: black with red suede lining, brown with purple suede lining and tan with green suede lining.
