Egyptian investment for tannery in Sudan

Following news in September of investment from Libya in the meat and tanning sector in Sudan, a separate announcement suggests an Egyptian bank will plough $500 million into the country.

The National Bank of Egypt has said it will make the money available over the next three years for a series of joint projects.

Egypt’s prime minister, Hisham Qandil, visited Sudan at the end of September with a delegation of ministers and business leaders. Mr Qandil revealed that one of the joint projects the two countries want to set up is a new tannery in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
