Ethiopia expects to double last year’s leather revenue

26/09/2012

Ethiopia expects to earn more than $233 million through the export of leather and leather products this year, according to the country’s Leather and Leather Products Development Institute.

This is double the figure for last year, which, at $112.1 million, was lower than expected due to the increase in the price of hides and other raw materials.

Increased foreign investment will boost the industry this year, with international companies, such as Chinese footwear manufacturer Hujiean, setting up production facilities in the country, according to the institute.
