Cattle herd boost in New Zealand

21/09/2012
A new report on the cattle industry in New Zealand says the herd size has grown thanks to good weather conditions in the last 12 months.

Projecting ahead to 2013, the report, prepared by the US Department of Agriculture, says that New Zealand will have a total cattle herd of 10.25 million head at the start of next year, up by around 2% on the total at the start of 2012.

Slaughter for the year is predicted to be just over 4.1 million head and beef production for 2013 is forecast at 633,000 tonnes.
