Vietnam: leather producer fined $16k

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, have fined Hao Duong Leather Tanning $16,300 for violating environmental protection regulations.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment said the company had been discharging untreated waste into the Dong Dien River, according to local newspaper Vietnam News.

The authorities said the company, which is located in the Nha Be district, dumped waste more than 30 times since it upgraded its capacity in 2005.
