Macy’s, New York, has spent $400 million expanding and redeveloping its luxury floor, with Gucci, Burberry and Longchamp featuring for the first time.

Their shops will rise three levels and span a city block - a first within a department store setting - and be second only in size to their own flagship stores.

Terry Lundgren, chairman of the world’s largest store, said: “Macy's is embarking upon what may be the largest and most extensive renovation of a single store in the history of retail.”

The luxury shop-in-shops for Gucci, Burberry and Longchamp will open into the world’s largest shoe floor, on floor two.

Mr Lundgren added: “I am especially excited that these luxury shops will officially open as part of our reinvented main floor when shoppers are looking for handbags, shoes and leathergoods for the holiday season.”

Burberry will open a three-level space covering 3,600 square feet and featuring large and small leather goods, as well as heritage rainwear.

Gucci’s store will feature a luxurious staircase and two-story façade, offering a range of accessories including handbags, small leather goods and women’s and men’s shoes.

Longchamp will feature an assortment of handbags and leather goods in its 1,500 square foot in-store shop.
