Brazil: senior cattle industry figure dies in plane crash
28/08/2012
Mr Tibery Junior was travelling with his wife and a pilot in a small aircraft when the plane came down on a ranch around 70 kilometres from the city of Água Clara in Mato Grosso do Sul.
He was a director and a former president of the influential Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders ABCZ.
In a statement after the incident, ABCZ said: “Orestinho was one of this country’s most important cattle breeders, with herds on a number of ranches in Mato Grosso do Sul and in São Paulo. His great-grandfather arrived from Italy last century and bought land in the area around Veríssimo in Minas Gerais. His uncle, Nelson Tibery, was a member of the group of breeders that first went to India to bring back Zebu cattle for breeding in Brazil. Another uncle, Pylades Prata Tibery, was an active member of ABCZ for decades and one of the association’s biggest supporters.”
