The Cambridge Satchel Company wins copyright case
The Cambridge Satchel Company has won a High Court copyright claim against rival Zatchels.
The UK-based leather bag-maker contested that Zatchels’ articles infringed intellectual
property rights.
From
humble beginnings in founder Julie Deane’s kitchen in 2008, The
Cambridge Satchel Company has grown rapidly, and is now sold in 86
countries.
She filed the claim in October 2011 after being alerted to the similarities of the bags by fashion bloggers.
"I want to raise awareness of the misconduct that has taken place and to assure our customers that we will stick to our principles and continue to create the best products for them," she said in a statement.
Zatchels will now have to pay an undisclosed sum.
