China: leather shoe exports fall in first half

China has released its results for exports of leather shoes in the first half of 2012.

Over the six-month period, exports of shoes with leather uppers fell in volume by 11.9% compared to the same period in 2011 and in value by 1.1%.

The figures for 2012 were export volumes of 390 million pairs, which had a combined value of nearly $4.9 billion. This gives an average price per pair of $12.56.

In contrast imports of leather shoes into China increased in the first half of 2012 by 18.6% in volume to reach 9.6 million pairs. The increase in value was 29.3%, reaching $460 million. This gives an average price per pair of $47.91.
