Vietnam's first-half leather exports increase 17% year on year

Out of Vietnam’s total exports of $62.93 billion during the first half of this year, the share of leather footwear and products stood at $5.1 billion, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

This compares with $4.35 billion in the first half of last year and equates to a 17.2% increase.

The breakdown shows that Vietnam exported leather footwear worth $4.2 billion, compared with $3.62 billion the previous year - a growth of 16.2%.

The country exported handbags, wallets, suitcases and umbrellas worth $889 million during the period, up from $729 million in the first half last year - a 22% increase in terms of value in dollars.

During July, Vietnam exported $700 million of footwear and $140 million in leather products, compared with $600 million and $100 million respectively in July 2011.
