BASF appoints new global head of leather chemicals

14/08/2012
Leather chemicals manufacturer BASF has appointed Alex Wartini as its new vice-president for global business management of leather chemicals. He took over the role at the start of July from Thomas Sattler, who has moved to a new position in the company.

Alex Wartini embarked on his career with BASF in 1999 as a research manager in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Subsequently, he took on several key management positions before moving to Singapore, where the leather business unit has its global headquarters, in 2008. Between then and 2010, he focused on strategy and global projects for the leather and textile chemicals parts of the business.

Immediately prior to assuming this new role, he was senior process manager for the company’s performance chemicals division in Ludwigshafen. He holds a PhD in organic chemistry from the Heidelberg University and is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which works to promote co-operation between German institutes of higher education and academics from other parts of the world.
