Ethiopian tannery receives ISO accreditation

09/08/2012

Colba Tannery in Ethiopia has received environmental protection and quality accreditation from the International Organisation for Standardisation.

It is expected the accreditation will enhance the marketability of the tannery's products on the international market as quality certification is an increasingly important standard in determining the growth of leather exports, according to experts.

The company received an ISO 9001/2008 certificate for its quality management system and an ISO 14001/2004 certificate for its environmental management system, according to local media reports.

Colba Tannery was established in 2002 and processes Ethiopian hair sheep skins, Bati Genuine goat skins and cow hides, offering crust and finished leather to local and overseas markets including China, Europe and India.
