High hopes for Krishnapatnam leather zone
A new leather complex in Krishnapatnam, India, is
expected to contribute to a significant rise in leather and leathergoods
exports, and to provide much-needed employment and skills for young people in
the region.
The cluster, which is being built by the Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (LIDCAP) in
collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation
(APIIC), will cover 412 acres of land. It will offer modern facilities and a
fully functioning effluent treatment plant.
According to reports, tanneries at the site will be able
to process approximately 300 tonnes of hides and skins per day, playing host to
around 25 tanning units and 21 leathergoods factories.
