KWSB to provide water for Korangi leather cluster
The
Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has been contracted by the Pakistani
government to provide water for around 200 leather factories in the Korangi
Inudstrial Area.
According
to The
Express Tribune, funding of 38.4
million rupees ($406,600) has been given to the board to ensure an effective
water pipeline is established. When complete, the KWSB will provide three
million gallons of water to the Korangi-based factories, which are believed to
account for around 40% of the country’s total leather production. The factories
generate around 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
