PTA orders urgent waste removal for tannery zone

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has sent an urgent appeal to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to remove solid waste from Karachi’s tannery zone with immediate effect.

PTA Chairman Khurshid Ahmed complained that KMC staff had dumped tannery waste on local roads and streets while the Korangi Industrial Area was being de-silted. This, he said was causing traffic build-up and pollution.

"Anticipating heavy rains in monsoon season, it has become imperative that tonnes of hazardous solid waste and garbage lying in and around the Tannery Zone in Sector 7-A and along the 5000 Road must be removed at the very earliest," he told the Business Recorder.
