Figures from Argentina show that between 2001 and 2009 beef production there increased by 35%, growing from 2.5 million tonnes a year to 3.4 million. However, between 2009 and 2011, production fell by 25% to 2.5 million tonnes, new statistics show, bringing the industry back to the same level as in 2001.

In studies, Argentinean consumers have said the high price of beef is the reason they are eating less of it and choosing other protein sources instead.
Production of chicken as a meat source doubled in Argentina between 2001 and 2011.
