Paraguay: packer firm to open new wet blue tannery

A meat company in Paraguay, Frigorífico Concepción, has announced an investment of $8 million in a new wet blue plant, which it says will begin production in September with a capacity to process 2,000 hides a day. It will create 160 new jobs.

Following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in September 2011, the Paraguayan meat and leather sector is beginning to look again at export markets. The Argentinean government lifted a ban on imports of bovine leather into the country from Paraguay in April.
