India’s industries and commerce minister Anand Sharma has unveiled plans to open a large leather cluster in Jalandhar, Punjab.

According to reports, the centre will cost around 1.3 billion rupees to build, and is expected to generate several hundred jobs.

The cluster will include a modern common effluent treatment plant (CETP) to deal with tannery waste and will enable leather firms to process raw hides, and to produce finished leather and leathergoods, the majority of which will be exported.
