Louis Vuitton opens exclusive Shanghai store

France-based fashion house Louis Vuitton is to open a new 'maison' in Shanghai offering exclusive services for its Chinese customers. The Plaza 66 Mall store spans four levels and employs more than 100 staff.

The boutique is one of 16 global stores to offer one-of-a-kind shoes and bags and an invitation-only private floor, where big spenders can have their hair styled while working on designs for customised bags made from high-end leather and exotic python and alligator skins.

"The made-to-order concept is the ultimate luxury," Louis Vuitton chief executive Yves Carcelle told Reuters.

"It's the same with art. If you are interested in art, the ultimate is to commission an artist rather than buy a piece that is already done."
