Global leather production grows 4.4%

Demand for capital goods rose in the industrialised countries of North America and East Asia during the first quarter.

According to statistics from UNIDO, the production of machinery and equipment grew by 6.7% in the US, 2.4% in Japan and 7.2% in Singapore. Overall growth of machinery and equipment in industrialised countries was estimated at 4.4%.

However, production levels in these regions declined within other sectors such as food, textiles, leather and leathergoods. 

Its figures suggest that leather, leathergoods and footwear production fell 6.9% in industrialised countries compared with a rise of 10.5% for the sector in developing regions. Overall, the global growth rate was 4.4%.
