Tannery of the Year: Americas finalists named
12/07/2012
From a total of 11 candidate tanneries for North, Central and South America, two have emerged as finalists. A group of industry experts nominates tanneries in each of five global territories for their performance against the Tannery of the Year corporate social responsibility criteria.
The purpose of the competition is to highlight and make public the best examples in the global leather industry of tanneries that look after the environment well, take good care of their employees, work closely and fairly with local and national authorities, are economically sound, committed to innovation and quality, and who have established strong partnerships with customers and suppliers.
We can reveal that the two finalist tanneries for the Americas this time are, in alphabetical order:
- Lefarc, León, Mexico, and
- SB Foot, Red Wing, Minnesota, US.
In-depth reports on the work of both tanneries will appear in the August-September 2012 issue of World Leather and both will go forward to take part in the final, which will take place in Hong Kong in March 2013 at the time of the APLF exhibition. We congratulate SB Foot and Lefarc for their success so far and wish them good luck as the competition continues.
After the Americas, the attention of Tannery of the Year will turn to Asia excluding China, Africa and China.
Tannery of the Year is run by World Leather magazine with the support of the APLF exhibition, chemical manufacturers BASF, Lanxess and Buckman, the International Council of Tanners and the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies.
