SAFLIA achieves pay deal for 8,000 shoemakers

South African footwear manufacturers will benefit from a
deal brokered by the South
African Footwear & Leather
Industries Association (SAFLIA).
According to the South African Clothing and Textile
Workers' Union (SACTWU), a 7.5% pay increase has been agreed with SAFLIA. Talks
started on April 23 and finally reached a conclusion on July 4.
“The agreement will come into effect backdated to the
first pay week in July this year, and 8,000 employees in the sector will
benefit from this increase,” SACTWU said in a statement.
