Hide export ban helps boost exports in Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) has said the country earned more than $100 million dollars from leather exports in the last eleven months. In the most recent full (fiscal) year, total export earnings from leather were $104 million.

According to LIDI, a government ban on the export of raw and semi-processed hides and skins is helping to increase revenues. The country currently produces 2.7 million hides and 15 million skins (sheep and goat) each year.
