IULTCS vice-president says Latin America has a big part to play in global industry

09/07/2012
Dr Patricia Casey, vice-president of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) and quality assurance director of Curtiembres Fonseca in Lanús, near Buenos Aires, has said the organisation is working hard to encourage local associations in leather-producing countries around the world.

In countries where there is too little leather production for this to happen, Dr Casey has said IULTCS encourages individual chemists and technicians to join associations in neighbouring countries. In comments she made in advance of the seventeenth congress of the Flaqtic, the Latin American federation of local associations, Dr Casey referred to IULTCS as “a great network of local organisations”, which comprises 17 national associations, five of them in Latin America.

The 2012 Flaqtic congress takes place in Montevideo, Uruguay, on October 9, 10 and 11.

Dr Casey commented that she was delighted to take up the role of IULTCS vice-president at the start of 2012, saying: “Latin American countries bring a huge volume of hides to the international market so we have to take an active part in improving and strengthening the industry’s image at a global level with a view to boosting growth.”
