China: leather exports grow 8.4%
New figures show that total Chinese export revenues for the leather sector grew 8.4% during the first five months of 2012. Revenues for the period totalled $26.2 billion, largely driven by leather shoe exports.
Leather imports also grew between January and May, according to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA). Imports grew 11.4% to $3.1 billion.
The leather sector trade surplus rose 8% to $23.5 billion
during the five-month period. This constituted 62% of the total national trade
surplus.
