Calia Italia targets counterfeiters
Leather upholstery company Italian Homes, which markets products under the Calia Italia and Nicoletti brand names, has taken legal action against a Chinese furniture producer that it claims is illegally making Calia Italia upholstery for the US market.
Italian Homes alleged that police in Italy already have seized several containers of upholstered furniture from Chinese producer Evergo Furniture, as well as marketing materials that illegally included Calia Italia trademarks Italian Homes officials allege that around 100 additional containers of the counterfeit goods already have reached North America, and officials hope the suspect containers will be inspected when they hit US ports.
According to the company’s national sales manager, Vincent Scocuzza, claims the counterfeit items use low-quality raw materials and inferior workmanship.
"We want our customers to know this is not the real
Calia product," said Vincent Scocuzza, national sales manager for Italian
Homes. "This is very damaging to our brand."
