New Zealand beef exports down

An increase in beef exports to Japan of 13% and to south-east Asia of 17% were the only bright-spots in figures announced by Beef and Lamb New Zealand for the month of May.

During the month, New Zealand’s beef exports fell overall by 3$ compared to May 2011, with a total of 43,079 tonnes shipped.

Shipments to the US accounted for 56% of the total, but were down by 3% compared to May last year. Exports to South Korea, the European Union and Canada also fell.
