China produces leather garments worth $2.4 billion

According to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), China’s 326 leather garment manufacturers netted RMB15.4 billion ($2.4 billion) during the first four months of the year. This was a 34% increase year-on-year, although the growth rate was down 17.4%.

In volume terms, leather garment production was up 10.35% during the first four months to 14.25 million pieces. However, the growth rate fell 13.87% compared with the prior-year period.

Hebei province was the top leather garment producer, while Sichuan province showed the fastest growth. Zhejiang province recorded the biggest drop in production.
