Japanese leather companies asked to meet voluntary azo dyes standards

13/06/2012
Reports from Asia suggest the the Japan Leather Industry Association (JLIA) has developed new azo dye standards for leather and leather products coming onto the domestic market and is already asking its member companies to comply.

Current harmful substance legislation in Japan does not cover hazardous azo dyes.

The new voluntary standards stipulate test methods and maximum limits for carcinogenic aromatic amines in consumer products; they have the backing of the ministry of economy, trade and industry.
