ALC to produce BMW leather in Bulgaria
South African leather manufacturer Automotive Leather Company (ALC) is to open a new production unit in Bulgaria on June 13. Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and its Minister of Economy and Energy, Delyan Dobrev, will attend the official opening ceremony.
The new facility in Musachevo, near Sofia, will be used to turn its luxury leather into seating and interiors for BMW Series 5 and 7.
Building the site has set ALC back EUR4 million. It will initially generate around 500 jobs.
Established in 1990, ALC first started exporting to Europe
in 1994. Its current production capacity is approximately 1,000 car sets per day
and it has around 700 employees at its South African plant in Rosslyn, just
North of Tshwane.
