Floods in Argentina, half a million cattle at risk

29/05/2012
Flooding in Argentina is reported to have left an area covering 600,000 hectares under water, putting the survival of half a million head of cattle in danger.

The flooding has occurred in the centre of the province of Buenos Aires, an extremely important area for the country’s agricultural sector. Crops, including soyabeans, are also at risk.

Local farmers have said that following a period of drought, they have had their whole annual total rainfall in the first five months of 2012.
