PTA chairman warns of industry “dying for want of water”

The chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Khurshid Ahmed, has urged the authorities in Karachi to have the Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) remove solid waste from tanneries and other industrial facilities in the city’s Korangi industrial area and carry out new pipeline installations for water supply.

Recent changes to local government have left solid waste piling up awaiting removal at tanneries, while tanners face severe water shortages.

Mr Ahmed went as far as to say the local leather industry is “dying for want of water”.
