JBS announces first-quarter results

Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS has reported revenues of R$16 billion for the first quarter of 2012, an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2011. The net earnings total from this was R$240.3 million.

In the course of the quarter, JBS abattoirs slaughtered just over 3.7 million head of cattle. This represents a small decline (of 0.9%) compared to the first quarter of 2011, but an increase of 2.5% compared to the last quarter of last year.

As one of the highlights of its projections for 2012, the company said it is adding 12 abattoirs to its list of facilities in Brazil.
