Live animals leave Pakistan despite tanning industry protests

16/05/2012
In spite of a well publicised objection from the Pakistan Tanners’ Association, recent information from the government appears to confirm that the practice of exporting live animals from the country is continuing. Tanners have objected to live animal exports owing to a shortage of hides and skins in  Pakistan.

Now an organisation called the national standing committee on food security and research has said the government has decided to allow the export of 223,000 live animals in total in 2012. So far 15,000 live animals have been exported.
