Hermes exhibition aims to “create beauty”
Luxury leathergoods brand Hermes has already welcomed a host of visitors to its Leather Forever exhibition in London's Burlington Gardens, which runs until May 27.
The company’s 12-room exhibition, designed by Alexandra Plat, is a celebration of its 175 years in the business.
Several interactive features have been made available, including hidden panels that can be touched and a toy theatre where curtains open to reveal four different Passe-Guide bags that are swapped each time the curtain closes and reopens.
Other highlights include a luxurious red and orange calfskin saddle, an oversized Kelly bag sculpture and a sunset-lit ‘desert’ area containing an array of travel-related leathergoods. A craftsman is also onsite to create luxury handbags. Each of the exhibition bags will be auctioned by Christie’s for charity from May 14 to 31.
Patrick Albaladejo, director of communication for strategy at Hermes, said: "A craftsman is a master of the knowhow.
"But what is important to his job, is not so much the technique that he will use, but the nature of the objective that he is pursuing and his objective is to create beauty."
