Vietnamese beamhouse achieves LWG gold

01/05/2012
Yi Sheng Leather, a beamhouse in the Ben Cat district of Binh Duong Province in Vietnam, has become the latest facility in the PrimeAsia group to achieve a gold award from the Leather Working Group (LWG), the multi-stakeholder group that assesses the environmental performance of tanneries and awards gold, silver and bronze status to those achieving the best results.

Yi Sheng also received the highest traceability rating, grade A. Grade A traceability means that greater than 90% of hides bought by Yi Sheng are traceable to the slaughterhouse. Gold and grade A traceability are the highest standings that can be awarded following an LWG environmental audit.

The gold result came as a result of Yi Sheng’s focus on saving energy, reducing water usage, and increasing environmental management. “The LWG environmental protocol continues to raise the requirements to attain gold, and thus, it is a major achievement to attain a LWG gold standing,” PrimeAsia said on announcing the news.
