Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS has acquired two small packer units in the north of the country, taking the total of its domestic acquisitions so far this year to seven.

The two facilities it has bought are abattoirs that were owned by MJE in the town of Ariquemes, in the state of Rondônia, and by Jema in Rio Branco. The two plants have a combined slaughter capacity of 900 head of cattle per day.

In February, JBS acquired four abattoirs run by Guaporé Carne in Mato Grosso and Rondônia, then in March it took over a plant in Mato Grosso do Sul. Reports in Brazil say that across the group JBS now has the facilities in place to be able to slaughter more than 30,000 head every day in Brazil and that its 2012 acquisitions so far have increased this capacity by around 10%.
