Manhattan celebration for special Loewe bag

Creative director of Spanish luxury leathergoods brand Loewe, Stuart Vevers, travelled to New York in mid-April to make a guest appearance at a special event for the company’s Amazona bag range.

Loewe launched the Amazona in 1975 and says the product marked a moment in history. It coincided with the end of the Franco regime and a return to democracy in Spain, with greater financial and social freedom for women following as a result. The Amazona, whose very name evokes the strength of women and symbolises their freedom, won immediate popularity, Loewe says.

According to the company, one of the aspects that has given the Amazona enduring appeal is that it has no lining, a characteristic made possible only by virtue of the quality of the leather and the skill of the artisans who make the bags. There is no lining because there is nothing to hide, the company has said. Every stitch that the craftspeople who make the bags put in is perfect.

The New York event takes place in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Midtown Manhattan on April 19 and 20, with Stuart Vevers in the store to talk to customers about the Amazona for three hours on the afternoon of April 19.
