Ethiopia: leather exports earn $71.1m

16/04/2012
Ethiopia earned $71.1 million in revenue from the export of leather and leathergoods over the last seven months according to the Ministry of Industry. The revenue raised in the reporting period exceeds that earned in the same period last fiscal year by more than 62% said Melaku Taye, communications director at the Ministry.

The revenue earned, however, is less than the target sum because of challenges associated with discovering new markets, the international economic situation and problems with management he noted.
Domestic leather tanneries were unable to achieve their projected exports because they primary attention has been to supply the national market according to Melaku.
