The LFLPTA is a relatively new organisation, having been established only in 2008. It says its main objective is to help build professionalism through adoption of new technologies, focus on ecological production, support occupational health and safety, and build up business and government relationships domestically and globally for the leather and footwear industries.
The association is active in organising seminars and conferences, conducting training workshops, and assists with the organisation of fairs and trade delegations. The LFLPTA publishes a magazine and newsletter for its members. It is incorporated under the ministry of social welfare and sees itself as serving as the “voice of the technologist” in Bangladesh. The association has approximately 150 active members, is run by its own 15-member executive committee.
