High growth potential for leather in Zambia

A manufacturing industries association in Zambia has said the leather industry in the African country is missing out on demand for finished Zambian leather in important export markets, including the US.

According to the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), disease among the country’s livestock is one of the main obstacles to growth for the local leather sector. The organisation’s president, Chance Kabaghe, recently told local media that although leather and leathergoods represented only a small proportion of Zambia’s manufacturing output at the moment, they had “high growth potential”.
