Strong growth in Indian leather exports

India’s Council for Leather Exports has reported that the industry there achieved export revenues of $3.6 billion in the firsrt nine months of the financial year that has just ended, the period covering April-December 2011.

This figure represents growth of 31.1% compared to the same nine-month period the year before. In local currency terms, the growth was even higher at 35.4%.

Top export destinations were Germany, which contributed 15.2% to the total revenues, Italy with 11.3%, the UK with 11.2%, the US with 8.9% and Hong Kong with 7.5%.
