Big jump in meat exports from Australia to the US

Meat industry sources in Australia have said exports from there to the US in March were at their highest levels in three years.

In the course of the month, Australian packer firms shipped 26,786 tonnes of meat to the US, attracted especially by high beef prices there.

While this represents an increase of 73% compared to the figure for March 2011, industry sources have pointed out that export levels at that time were at their lowest since the 1960s.
