Brazilian government offers further help to manufacturers

Brazil’s federal government has widened a programme of help to manufacturing industries, easing the tax burden on employers. The move is a response to loud calls for aid to manufacturers to help them overcome the perceived disadvantages of high local taxes and a problematic exchange rate that has led to cheap imports from competitor countries, the federal government has announced a new package of aid measures.

Furniture manufacture is one of the new sectors to be included. Producers of leather and footwear were already receiving the aid, which takes the form of a simplified rate of payroll tax.
