Tannery City celebrates its history

03/04/2012
The small town of Lavausseau, near Poitiers in western France, held a weekend of celebration of its history as a centre for leather production on March 30, 31 and April 1. It was the second successful event of its kind, following its inauguration in 2011.

Workshops and demonstrations of tanning and artisan leathergoods manufacture proved popular with local people and visitors alike.

A master chef, Christian Rougier, also took part, helping make the link between between meat and leather as a by-product by preparing special dishes with ostrich, rabbit and goat.
