Leather egg joins the Faberge Big Egg Hunt

29/03/2012

A leather egg created by London-based designer Rachel Freire is one of 210 giant egg sculptures which make up The Faberge Big Egg Hunt. As part of the egg hunt, the sculptures have been placed in locations across central London. Each egg has been designed, crafted and decorated by an international artist or designer.

Ms Freire’s egg is a collaboration between the designer and Danish leather firm, ECCO Leather. Speaking about her creation, Ms Freire told leatherbiz.com: “It’s very beautiful and I would love for someone in the leather industry to be the person who wins it at auction and have it go to a good home. The egg is covered entirely in couture leather and is definitely a one-off piece as none of the leather remains from my last handmade batch.”

The leather egg can be seen online at: www.thebigegghunt.co.uk/egg/117.

All the eggs can be found across 12 ‘egg zones’ in central London. They will all be placed together for The Grand Eggstavaganza on the Easter weekend in Covent Garden (5-9 April, 2012).

A total of 30 of the eggs have already been sold at live auction on 20 March. The rest of the eggs will be sold in an online auction. Bidding will close on 9 April. All proceeds from the auction will go to the charities Elephant Family and Action for Children.
